New Partnership to Help More Students Become Architects
DMACC Architectural Technologies AAS Graduates can now transfer to Dunwoody College for their fully accredited Bachelor of Architecture. Only three years to complete your degree
The Dunwoody College of Technology B.Arch. is fully accredited. The degree program can be completed online or face to face. This allows students to have more freedom and flexibility for those who are unable or unwilling to relocate.
Mike Gatzke, Chair of DMACC Architectural Technologies Program, said that partnerships such as the one between DMACC Architectural Technologies and Dunwoody College of Technology are rare in architecture education.
Students at DMACC Architectural college street style snaps have a new, seamless route to earning a Bachelor of Architecture. A recent articulation agreement between Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis and DMACC allows students to earn a degree and pursue a career as architects.
This agreement allows students who have completed the DMACC Architectural Technologies AAS degree can transfer to Dunwoody College of Technology in order to complete their fully accredited, fully-online or face-toface Bachelor’s of Architecture – a five year degree – within three years of graduating from DMACC. All five-year architecture programs that are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, (NAACB), are accredited. View the list of accredited programs.

It will provide more opportunities for our DMACC Architectural Technologies Students who are interested in continuing their education and becoming architects. “Dunwoody college degree online of Technology accepts our DMACC Architecture Technologies AAS degree in its entirety as equal to the first two year of its five-year Bachelor of Architecture program (B.Arch.). Gatzke said that the partnership offers a valuable option for students who are unable or unwilling to relocate.

Gatzke stated that he was humbled when Dunwoody College of Technology offered this partnership opportunity to DMACC.
Gatzke stated that partnerships like these are still rare in architecture education and that they are extremely needed. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, architecture will grow faster than average as a career in the next few years. We want to ensure that our students are prepared for these opportunities.
Trevor Bullen, Dean of Dunwoody School of Design, also spoke out in support of building strong partnerships in architecture education.
Bullen stated that Dunwoody College is proud of its partnership with Des Moines Area Community College. This collaboration will help address the increasing demand in the industry for licensed architects. “DMACC is a well-respected college that provides students with technical skills and the design foundation necessary to succeed in this field. They are also a great fit to complete their professional Bachelor of Architecture here at Dunwoody.
Dunwoody College of Technology Launches School of Design
Dunwoody College of Technology is a pioneer in technical education and a private, non-profit organization. Today, the school’s first School of Design was launched. The new school, which is unique in its structure, provides students with both technical expertise and creative practice. It includes Dunwoody’s highly-respected design-focused programs, including interior design, architecture, and graphic design.
Dunwoody’s design education emphasizes technical skills and an understanding of industry best practice to maximize students’ creativity. The course is project-based and focuses on all aspects of the creative process from ideation to production. Students will learn to collaborate with clients to find the most innovative solution within a budget and to meet project goals. Students benefit from decades of industry experience and can learn valuable skills from professionals who have been there for years.
Rich Wagner, President of Dunwoody College of Technology, stated that “our students are creators and makers, designers and doers, while Dunwoody has an extensive history of excelling at design-forward programs.” We looked ahead to the future and realized it was the right time to continue that tradition and combine our top design programs to create the School of Design. These programs, when combined, will produce problem solvers and collaborators who can make a lasting impact on the design field and the built environment.
Trevor Bullen, AIA is taking over as the School of Design’s academic dean. Bullen has more than 25 years experience in architecture, including international planning projects and landscape architecture. Bullen was most recently a senior associate, director of operations, and vice president at Snow Kreilich Architects. This firm received the AIA Architecture Firm Award 2018. Bullen managed an award-winning architecture planning and design studio on Grenada from 2000 to 2016. He completed more than 30 projects. Bullen was active in academia throughout his career in the industry. He taught architectural design at the Boston Architectural College and the City College of New York as well as at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. He is also a frequent guest critic at architecture schools across the country.
Maura Rogers (AIA, NCARB and LEED GA), will play an important role in advancing Dunwoody’s programs. Rogers was most recently involved in alternative delivery methods design-builds and public services. Rogers brings a wealth experience to her new role, including a long career in architecture that included residential design, technical drawing, urban planning and project management. Rogers will be responsible for overseeing both the 2-year Architectural Drafting & Design program and the +3 Bachelor of Architecture program.
Korrin Howard, the School of Design’s Director of the Interior Design and Graphic Design Programs, will also be joining the School of Design. Howard’s 16-year experience as a designer, public artist and educator has been a great inspiration for students. She will now be heading the interior and graphic design programs for students to create spaces that are sensory-rich.
